About Brewculator

Brewculator exists because most coffee ratio advice is vague. “Use two tablespoons per cup” doesn’t account for cup size, brew method, grind, or personal taste. We built ratio calculators that do.

Every calculator on this site uses the same underlying math: a coffee-to-water ratio adjusted for the extraction characteristics of each brew method. Drip coffee extracts differently than a french press, which extracts differently than espresso. The ratios reflect that.

We measure in grams because weight is consistent. A “tablespoon” of coffee varies by grind size and how tightly you pack it. A gram is a gram. That said, we include tablespoon conversions because not everyone owns a scale yet.
